Apoptosis induced by ajulemic acid in isolated human lymphocytes

The purpose of this project was to determine whether Ajulemic Acid (AjA), a synthetic analog of tetrahydrocannibinol and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid, induces apoptosis (programmed cell death) in Jurkat cell lines and isolated human lymphocytes. Several methods were used to assay apoptosis: cell morphology, cell viability, cellular DNA fragmentation ELISA, DNA laddering, and caspase-3 enzyme activity. The results indicate that AjA, but not GLA induces apoptosis.
