This project reviewed and assessed the existing health care system of the Republic of Cyprus based on the criteria of efficiency, effectiveness, equity and availability of consumer choice. Using national data from various Ministries of the government, and international data from the organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), serious deficiencies were identified. A revised system was proposed for financing and delivering health care in Cyprus ("Competition-Based Universal Health Insurance").
