During the coming decade, the licenses of an entire generation of nuclear reactors will expire, including the WPI reactor. According to 10CFR50, the government regulations for licensing reactors and other nuclear facilities, in order to renew a license each reactor must have a decommissioning plan. This plan will encompass every aspect of shutdown and dismantling including methods, cost and environmental impact. It is our objective to develop the plan for the WPI reactor and illustrate the benefits of re-licensing versus decommissioning.
