The purpose of this project was to characterize a novel gene in a transgenic mouse model of Huntington's disease, a fatal neurological disorder. Mice expressing a Huntington's disease transgene were examined to verify the presence of that transgene. The mice that were identified with the transgene developed abnormal neurologic behaviors and demonstrated neurodegenerative characteristics similar to those seen in human Huntington's disease patients. This transgenic mouse model is therefore useful in future studies on the pathogenesis of Huntington's disease. These experiments were carried out in Dr. Neil Aronin's lab in the Department of Medicine at UMass Medical School in Worcester, MA.
