DNA detection on photoresist-derived carbon

Currently, there is a need for medical advancement. The new research turns towards eradicating those illnesses which are hereditary. Many of these diseases are still puzzling scientists and researchers to this day. This project aims to give researchers another way to investigate the genomes of the diseases and set them on the path to a cure. This project will attempt to manufacture a new DNA biosensor for medical applications. This was done by pyrolyzing photoresist on a piece of silicon wafer. Heating the photoresist at extremely high temperatures would yield a carbon layer capable of electron transfer. Many have scratched the surface of this idea but this project will take a big step in the process of formulating a method of chemically bonding the DNA to the carbon electrode and detecting its presence on the electrode. Much work has been done in this field with a glassy carbon substrate, but this project will revolutionize the innovative world of DNA biosensors.
