The Assistment online tutoring system uses tutoring called 'scaffolding' to assist students when they have trouble with a question. The effective learning using generalized versus non-generalized tutoring approaches is the subject of our experiment. It was found that non-generalized tutoring that references the original question was more effective than the generalized approach which references a new example problem. Content developers can use the results, which indicate the superior tutoring approach, to write more effective Assistment content in the future.
