This report, prepared for the Camara de Industrias de Costa Rica, includes a summary of sustainability, the economies of the European Union and Costa Rica, and green public procurement. The project was performed as an exploratory study, where the results should be viewed as a pre-test for CICR to utilize as a future assessment tool. The two product sectors of focus are furniture and processed foods. We developed a questionnaire incorporating GPP criteria and green practices. We then performed four case studies to assess green practices of Costa Rican companies. Using the results, we have identified the necessary changes required for exportation and a method for CICR to make further assessments to assist their member companies in future exports.
