Investigation of a non-catalytic carbon nanotube growth method
PublicCarbon nanotubes can be grown by several catalytic methods with moderate yields and at high costs. This project studied and further developed the non-catalytic growth method developed at NASA. Using this method, we non-catalytically produced raw samples with a 70% yield of nanotubes at approximately $10/gram. We then changed variables in the production of the nanotubes and analyzed the carbon product with scanning electron microscopy and several more specific analytic techniques to evaluate the nanotubes produced under different conditions.
