Working with the community on fire prevention

open in viewerFires in Paraguay have been on a steady increase in recent years impacting the lives and well-being of those affected by them. A team of students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute worked with the Cerrito Agricultural School to improve fire safety awareness. The team used interviews, surveys, and workshops to create a fire safety community outreach program for four schools in Benjamín Aceval and two neighboring communities. These workshops were led by members of the fire safety committee created by the team and consisted of a fire safety and prevention presentation and a fire safety activity. Throughout their 7 weeks of research, the team also created three fire risk assessment clocks, a website to indicate the daily fire risk, and used their committee to spread awareness of the risks and consequences of fire.
