Processing and testing of surgical stents produced with a shape memory polymer
PublicA polyurethane-based shape memory polymer was used to produce a hollow surgical stent. A straight tube was initially extruded and then trained by heat treatment to transform into a coil of the desired diameter when heated above the glass transition temperature. The results indicated that small lumen diameter yielded better shape recovery.
