Synthesis of bis- and tris-dipyrromethanes as precursors for metal organic frameworks

Público

An approach to the modular synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is proposed. MOFs consist of metal-carboxylate clusters as nodes and organic moieties as 'molecular' node connectors. In this work 5-(4-methoxycarbonyl-phenyl)-4,6-dipyrromethane is synthesized and metalation of this ester with Zn?+ and Fe?+ is carried out to prepare supramolecular di- and tri-esters. Acidification of these multi-esters and their applications in the synthesis of multi-acids, MOFs, and refinements to the existing synthetic procedures for the dipyrromethane esters is described.
