Wildlife populations in urban and suburban areas
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerContact with woodland wildlife is increasing in Massachusetts. One reason is landscape changes from meadowlands to woodlands habitats, providing more favorable habitats for woodland species. Woodland wildlife also is increasing because of a decrease in hunting and trapping. Expanding human populations cause contact with wildlife to increase, and conditions in suburbia provide an attractive habitat for many species. Increases can be seen in bear, moose, raccoon, squirrel, woodchuck, and skunk populations, for example.
