This project focused on the relationship between light intensities and human psychological stress levels, and the design of a new counseling center for Worcester Polytechnic Institute that promotes calmness in users. To determine an ideal light setting, an adaptation of the Trier Social Stress Test was conducted. The experiment was in two environments: Immersive Space and Virtual Reality. Participants were assigned different light settings and asked to perform a set of stress-inducing tasks. Their EEG data, cortisol hormone levels, and heart rate were analyzed to determine their overall stress level before, during, and after the experiment. Though inconclusive, the results paved the way for future neurological studies conducted in the Immersive Space.
