Design of an elevating legrest for a wheelchair

Public

The motion of current leg rests for manual wheelchairs do not match the arc of the user's legs, thereby shortening the leg and applying torque to the hip as the leg rest is raised. The goal of this project was to design a legrest that would mirror the arc of the users' leg without interfering with other junctions of the wheelchair. The leg rest that was designed and produced, extended as it elevated and included an adjustable pivot point. This final device was successful in meeting most of the design requirements.
