Adaptive beamforming using field programmable gate array embedded microprocessors

Público

The goal of our project was to investigate the utilization and integration of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) embedded microprocessors within radar systems. At MIT Lincoln Laboratory, we successfully designed three adaptive beamforming solutions utilizing novel embedded soft-core microprocessor technology, thus proving the potential of integrating traditional FPGA logic and embedded microprocessors. By constructing several different systems, we were able to compare and contrast different architectures in order to find an optimal configuration that combined the strengths of each technology to achieve a complete, well-rounded solution. The cutting-edge nature of the soft-core microprocessor technology also gave us a chance to pioneer the application of such devices within radar systems.
