The goal of this project was to create experimental tools to introduce the undergraduate students at WPI to the practice of material testing. Two sub-projects were created to capture both static and dynamic testing. For static materials testing, the team designed and constructed a 2000 lbf tensile tester. Force is applied with a linear actuator and measured with a load cell. Strain is measured with digital image correlation.
