Identification of three Drosophila melanogaster GABA-B DNA clones

GABA is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS that causes late inhibitory postsynaptic potentials when transmitted to metabotropic GABA-B receptors. GABA-B receptors are comprised of two subunits whose dimerization is required for function. Using bioinformatic methods we have found a possible GABA-B R3 subunit in Drosophila melanogaster. The presence of the Drosophila GABA-B clones were identified by PCR but not cloned in full length. Discovery of a GABA-B R3 clone may facilitate drug discovery for treatments of many CNS diseases.
