Effect of bath temperature on crystallite size

Public

The effects of plating bath temperature and activation conditions on the crystallite size of palladium thin films produced on porous stainless steel by electroless plating were studied. Film thicknesses varied form 4.86 um to 11.1 um. Increasing plating temperature from 40 degree C to 60 degree C increased the average crystallite size measured by X-ray diffraction from 36 nm to 40 nm. Crystallite sizes were similar for membranes plated at the same temperature onto supports of different surface activation conditions.
