The acronym STEM typically refers to the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math that are taught in school. However, it is important for students to learn the real-world applications of STEM through hands-on activities. Even more important in a student's academic journey is encouragement and support from their families. Unfortunately, this is not always easy for caregivers who do not have knowledge of STEM or lack the time and resources to engage with their child in STEM learning. Access to STEM learning resources is also essential to breaking barriers between high and low-income families, as well as supporting underrepresented communities. Therefore, the goal of our project was to help combat these barriers and increase family engagement in STEM within the Latino community in Worcester through designing a family-oriented take-home bag of resources to be distributed to the members of our CBO of focus, the Latino Education Institute.
