This MQP produced an improved means to design, manufacture, and test the fin-based hydropower generators prototyped by previous WPI MQP teams. The team incorporated CFD and FEA into the design process, constructed a new, more reliable iteration of the cam-driven fin generator, and used a Prony brake dynamometer to measure power and efficiency data. Detailed testing showed thinner, more flexible fins outperform thicker, more rigid fins. The peak power and efficiency attained was 3 Watts and 4.5%, respectively.
