Strategies for Promoting Resilience to Increased Coastal Flooding Along the Downtown Boston Waterfront

open in viewerRising sea levels and increased storm severity, due to climate change, are affecting coastal cities around the world. Sea levels in Boston are projected to rise six feet by 2100, and storm severity is also projected to increase. These two factors are increasing the risk of flood damage in the Downtown Boston area. Our team conducted vulnerability assessments at five sites along the waterfront in Downtown Boston to understand the risk of flooding. To address the vulnerabilities, we presented resilience strategy recommendations to the Boston Redevelopment Authority in their efforts to revise the Municipal Harbor Plan.
