Pratt & Whitney EB-PVD TBCs

This project was conducted at Pratt & Whitney, North Haven Connecticut. In this project a graphical representation of a contoured Electron Beam Physical Deposition partially stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coating (EB-PVD PSZ TBC) was created using Unigraphics. A series of experiments was designed to determine the coating deposition rates and microstructures at a finite of positions in the EB-PVD vapor cloud. In addition a database was developed to store the information from these experiments in Access and will be linked to the graphical representation using Xess. A representation of a contour coating in Unigraphics was also designed. The results of this project will be used to develop a rules-based design software to determine the processing parameters for an EB-PVD contour coating.
