The goal of this project was to make MathSpring more accessible to Latinx students. Through my research, two paths emerged. The first remained in line with the original purpose, improving usability specifically for Spanish-speaking ELL Latinx students by translating content from English to Spanish. The second was to improve all students’ affect through mini-game breaks. To see if the breaks were effective, I organized a study with two classes. Half of each class had a chance to receive break prompts, the other half were control. All students self-reported on frustration during the study, and answered a survey afterwards. Students who received break prompts reported high levels of frustration less frequently than those without, and many students expressed interest in having game breaks.
