Progression and Modernization of Akan Traditions and Symbols: Co-design and Co-redevelopment of Dwenase Durbar Grounds
PúblicoConteúdo disponível para baixar
open in viewerThe Akan people of Dwenase Ghana take great pride in their traditions and symbols thereof. However, as any community grows, its customs evolve. The durbar grounds is a community-wide space for all cultural events, most importantly funerals. The Dwenase durbar grounds were time-worn and inadequately sized to accommodate all event attendees. With the community, our group redesigned and redeveloped the grounds. We utilized the co-design framework to not only increase the size and better the look of the grounds, but also make a structure that signified the evolving Akan culture.
