The Role of Cavin-1 in Stress Response through the GPCR Pathway

open in viewerThe aim of this project is to characterize the role of the protein cavin-1 in regulating stress response through the G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling pathway. Cavin-1 is a multifunctional protein with roles in the nucleus and the cytoplasm, including its integral role in the structure of caveolae. Previous studies have shown the absence of cavin-1 or its structural partner, caveolin-1, causes caveolae deformation. As GPCRs can localize to caveolae domains, cavin-1 may play a role in mediating interactions in this pathway. As such, cavin-1 may be an indirect regulator of stress response, measured in this study through the formation of stress granules. We show that the loss of cavin-1 has a pronounced effect on RNA sizes and argonaute-2 stress granule formation.
