A mist-based nutrient delivery system for plant growth in microgravity

The ability to grow plants in microgravity is essential for the sustenance of life in extraterrestrial environments. Problems with current systems mainly involve poor gas exchange due to the lack of convection currents in microgravity. A model porous-tube system was compared against a mist-delivery system. Systems were compared for ADH activity and various morphological characteristics over 7- and 40-day trials. Plants grown to maturity in the mist system were healthier than those grown in the tube system.
