This project utilized the PBS video series "Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?", with a focus on the episode "Place Matters", to raise health consciousness in an introductory sociology course at WPI. Students in this class were surveyed for general health interest, exposed to this video, and then surveyed again for changes in interest. The results of this study indicate that this video series is an effective tool at increasing health consciousness and interest. This suggests that a successful introductory sociology class could be created using this video series as its backbone, and that an increase in health-related projects both on-campus and abroad are highly supported by members of student body after exposure to this series, regardless of past health interest or expertise.
