Despite its significance within the body, educational tools modeling the shoulder joint are scarce. Our team continued the development of a life-sized model comprising the scapula and humerus to demonstrate scapulohumeral rhythm, the coordinated movement between the scapula and humerus during various shoulder motions. Our physical rig serves as an excellent foundation for future teams to supplement. In addition, a 3D animation of scapulohumeral rhythm during abduction and flexion was created in Blender, using a mathematical model based on clinical research. Videos showing the relative movement of the scapula and humerus during abduction and flexion are available on a Canvas site and could be used as an educational resource for students seeking an understanding of the human shoulder.
