RNA:DNA or weight:length to assess fish growth?

Public

In this study RNA:DNA ratios were analyzed from two groups of individually tagged rainbow trout given different feeding treatments. At the outset Group A received high food and group B received low food. I reversed the feeding treatments when the average weight of the fish in the groups became significantly different. I collected skin scrapings every four weeks to determine the RNA: DNA. The results show RNA:DNA ratios from skin scrapings accurately reflect changes in juvenile steelhead weight.
