Design of Scale-Model Floating Wind Turbine: Spar Buoy
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThe project goal was to design and build a 100:1 scale model of a spar-buoy floating wind turbine. The components were modeled in SolidWorks and printed using ABS plastic. A system of accelerometers, inclinometers, and load cells were implemented for data collection. An anchoring system was developed to aid testing in Alden Laboratories so that the model's response to various wave heights and frequencies could be determined. A preliminary design for incorporating rotating blades to the nacelle is also described.
