Sample sediment cores were collected from three Cape Cod freshwater glacial kettle ponds. Data from the cores were linked to historical records, demonstrating the negative impact of European arrival in the area. To gain insight into current views of sediment importance and awareness, a survey was conducted in the Blackstone River Valley. Survey results indicate that although people are aware of environmental issues, they are not wholly aware of the role that sediments play.
