Design of a system for parachute load measurements

Public

The goal of this project was to design and test a system to investigate the scaling relationships between 6 in. and 12 in. models and 28 ft parachutes in an immersed environment. The system is capable of measuring drag forces up to 40 lbf and accelerations of up to 1g of the canopy during deployment and steady-state flight. The project included the initial analysis of the acquired data for a force range of 0/77 lbf to 24.88 lbf and expected acceleration range of 0g to 1g.
