open in viewerOveruse of opioids for the treatment of chronic pain has led to a national epidemic of overdose and addiction. Though music is already known to cause pain relief, the proposed Music-induced Analgesia Genome Study (IMAGS) is interested in discovering which aspects of music reduce chronic pain the most. For this study, the team developed a software system with two components: a phone application that tracks participants’ Spotify song selection while they rate their pain, and a web application to allow researchers to view and aggregate gathered data. This software system enables researchers to identify what types of music could be used to supplement or replace opioid pain relief.
