ASSISTments, a web based educational tutoring system, has been used with thousands of students to provide real time feedback and targeted assistance in learning. In addition to helping students, ASSISTments serves as a research catalyst for academics by providing a highly integrated, minimally disruptive avenue for conducting educational studies. The work described herein leveraged ASSISTments to design, implement, and analyze studies to explore the impact of two treatment interventions on student learning. The effect on student learning after re-mastery of prior knowledge skills and the effect of motivational video on student mindset and learning were explored. Learning gains were statistically significant in the former study, while the latter study's findings were not.
