Adding a rationale capture tool to a solid modeler

Public

Designers have recognized the value of a complete and complex design rationale for documenting a design. However, most Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems do not allow for capture of this rationale, and designers are often reluctant to produce this on their own due to the substantial amount of time that would be required. This report focuses on a system for capturing the design rationale of a designer who is using a CAD tool. This system acquires the rationale by asking the user to enter it as text. When the designer has finished creating a part, the part file will be saved and the rationale will be written to a text file.
