The goal of this MQP was to work with AB InBev’s brewery in Uberlândia, Brazil, to reduce their water consumption index (volume of water consumed/volume of beer produced). Our main objectives included mapping the water use of the brewery and determining methods to reduce the overall water consumption index. To create the map, we observed, quantified, and analyzed Cleaning-in-Place and Sterilization-in-Place procedures. Upon analysis, we determined steps of the procedures that could be amended or deleted to reduce overall water consumption. Some of these suggestions yielded design recommendations, such as a compressed air tank and a deaerated water reclaim tank Our suggested improvements have the potential to reduce the projected water consumption index for 2016 by a significant amount.
