This report is a proposal to solve the problem of sample storage space in a wavetable synthesizer system. It discusses the design of an embedded x86 system capable of reading compressed samples from flash memory and playing them back via a software-based MIDI wavetable music synthesizer. Additionally, a design is given for a special-purpose sound card with 16 audio outputs.
