Student Work
[A device to quantify lower extremity edema]
ÖffentlichThe goal of this project is to develop a device that can quantify edema related to Venous Stasis Disease (VSD). We modeled edema using viscoelastic foams with varying viscosities. A prototype was developed and an experiment conducted to determine the device's ability to distinguish between materials. Our device indents into the edematous tissue and, using half the time to recover, produces an output on a digital display. The device was able to distinguish between three memory foam based models. Proof of principle was achieved; we feel it is ready for clinical trials.
