Miniaturized Blood pH Sensor

open in viewerThe aim of this project was to design a miniaturized, minimally-invasive blood pH sensing device for medical point-of-care applications. Blood pH is a vital marker for determining overall health. Abnormal blood pH levels mean that the body's natural buffer system is out of balance, which may indicate serious health issues, such as, kidney damage, pneumonia, or heart failure. This project utilizes an Ion Sensitive Field Effect Transistor (ISFET) to measure the pH of a liquid solution. The sensor's measurement is passed through a readout circuit that presents the pH measurement on the device's display screen in real-time. With its portable size and its ability to accurately measure with only 1-2mL of solution, this device is a more convenient option when compared to the current state-of-the-art blood pH measurement techniques.
