Determining the role of the dig-1 gene during nervous system development in C. elegans

Público

Studying axon development is important because it has many potential benefits for people. The dig-1 gene in C. elegans is thought to encode a protein involved in axon guidance or maintenance during development. A temperature sensitive mutant was used to determine the stage of development. A temperature sensitive mutant was used to determine the stage of development the protein is working. Antibody staining was used to determine the location of the protein in the embryo. It was found that the protein is required during both embryogenesis and early larval development.
