A unique charging method for hybrid electric vehicles

Public

This Major Qualifying Project (MQP) implements a unique method for battery charging in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) applications. Segmenting the string and charging each section in parallel, more accurately controls the voltage per cell, thereby improving battery life. An electronic switch connects/isolates the batteries and the drive system during the drive/charge modes respectively. A scaled "proof of concept" design will consist of a string of four lead acid batteries, a charger and the electronic switch.
