Stem cells -- applications and ethical considerations
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThe potential clinical applications and ethical concerns associated with stem cell technology have been studied. The principal methodologies include literature review, company visits, interviews with key researchers in the area, and group surveys. The data indicate that the application of stem cells can be extremely helpful in the cure and/or treatment of many debilitating diseases. The initial use of embryonic stem cells and cloning techniques has generated considerable controversy. However, various new sources of stem cells are being discovered that may obviate some of the ethical concerns. It can be expected that stem cells can have a dramatic effect on the treatment, cure, management and/or prevention of diseases.
