SRP -- a multimedia network protocol
PublicSRP-Selective Retransmission Protocol is a protocol designed to increase the performance of multimedia applications. SRP tries to balance the high loss found in UDP, and the high latency found in TCP. SRP uses a decision algorithm to determine whether or not to ask for a retransmission for a lost packet, balancing the loss and latency to an acceptable level for the application's needs. We experimentally found SRP outperformed both TCP and UDP in our quality comparison of the three protocols.
