Design and construction of a pulsatile flow generator

Public

The goal of this project is to design a bench top pulsatile flow generator to create a flow that is pulsatile, uniform, and reproducible. The design consists of a piston that is driven using a variable speed motor. The rectified sinusoidal pulse is created through the use of a slider crank mechanism and several one-way valves. The resulting pressure waveform was measured as it traveled through tubes made of different materials, determining the effects of material compliance. There were design improvements that were designed and modeled including cams and linkages.
