Buried Voices is a 3D puzzle-platformer game about historical revisionism and negationism. The player controls Khura, a young Avanqi woman in search of her culture’s past in a former Avanqi sacred building that has been colonized and converted into a Feorlen library. The player must explore the Library, solving puzzles and sneaking past the watchful eyes of the Library’s Guardians to uncover the true history and voices of the Avanqi people. The goal of this MQP was to create a captivating experience that would inspire and inform players about the real world issue of historical revisionism, especially as it pertains to Indigenous people. This report discusses the design choices behind Buried Voices, the production of the writing, art, and gameplay, and the playtesting process. At the time of this report, a demo of the game is complete, with future plans to expand it into a larger game. The results of our playtesting show that players successfully understood the message of our game and were enthralled by the compelling art and storytelling.
