Greywater is recycled wastewater from home bathtubs, showers and sinks that does not contain fecal matter or urine. In an effort to conserve the dwindling resource of potable water, research was conducted on the use of greywater in small-scale farming. Greywater was used to irrigate edible crops until they matured. It was found that the edible parts of the plants were not contaminated even if a potential pathogen was added to challenge the system. By using greywater in farming, the majority of potable water currently used in irrigation can be conserved.
