Exploring the Feasibility of Nuclear Reactors for Energy at WPI 22-23

Public Deposited

This project investigates the practicality of using a small modular nuclear reactor (SMR) for simultaneous power generation and research at WPI. Current generation research reactors cannot generate power, but SMRs offer increased versatility. We expanded upon recent research that suggested an SMR could feasibly benefit WPI. Our study analyzed regulations, accessed energy demand data, conducted interviews, and examined potential sites. We then developed various scenarios for implementing an SMR at WPI and assessed their viability, benefits, and drawbacks.
