In April 2024, the City of Venice implemented an entry fee targeting excursionist tourism. The city aimed to offset tourists from weekends while raising funds for city maintenance. We studied the entry fee and its reception from tourists during the city’s trial run of the fee on selected weekends and holidays by administering a survey at tourist hotspots. We also captured the reactions and opinions of tourists regarding the fee on video. The data collected from our surveys and interviews agree with information provided from the City of Venice, despite our relatively small sample size. This report explores the apparent financial success of the entry fee, which may indicate its ineffectiveness as a deterrent.
