Proposal for the Development of an Economically Viable Lunar Base
ÖffentlichHerunterladbarer Inhalt
open in viewerThe prospect of an economically viable lunar base holds promise for the future of mankind. A lunar base that is self-sufficient could bring unprecedented scientific developments for mankind. Lunar regolith is rich in many metals including iron, titanium, magnesium, and aluminum. These metals can be used to further expand a lunar base. Helium-3, found in the regolith that covers the moon, is present in much greater quantities than on Earth. Helium-3 can power fusion reactors, and its rarity has been a major impediment to fusion reactor development on earth. A lunar mining colony will require an initial investment, but it will more than pay for itself when it is sufficiently developed. An economically viable lunar base promises to extend mankind's reach well into the solar system.
