Mapping the COVID-19 Pandemic: Exploring Phylogenetic Epidemiology through Interactive Visualization
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThis Interactive Qualifying Project explored the COVID-19 pandemic through the lens of interactive cartography with a focus on making complex phylogenetic data more accessible. A flexible graph database was used to collect and analyze various forms of epidemiological data including phylogenetic data from Nextstrain. This data was primarily visualized through a custom web-based interactive mapping application that lets users explore an inferred transmission map of COVID-19 across the United States. The project aims to demonstrate how digital visualization techniques can be leveraged to make complex phylogenetic data approachable and useful to a broad audience.
